JOHN PETERSON
Background
John was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. He began his railroad career in 1963 as a
Locomotive Fireman with Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was subsequently promoted to Engineer
and after the Union Pacific/Missouri Pacific merger he finished his 36 year
railroad career with Union Pacific.
John was a third generation railroader. His father was Local Chairman of the
BLF&E for 18 years. Following
his father’s footsteps, as a union officer, John served two terms as
President of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Division 182, prior to
his occupational disability in 2000.
During his railroad career John participated in International
Conventions as well as Regional Conventions and served on several
committees. He is a member of the
National Association of Railroad Safety Consultants and Investigators and
routinely attends annual conferences.
John works out of our North Little
Rock/Sherwood office. He has devoted
the past 6 years to assisting injured railroaders with their FELA claims. His duties, as an Investigator for the
firm, include: interviewing prospective clients; reviewing and evaluating
reports, files and records; assisting clients in their dealings with
railroad officials, the Railroad Retirement Board, UPREHS, UHC, UNUM/Provident,
insurance companies, healthcare providers and any other entities where
clients require assistance. John was
instrumental in informational seminars for several rail labor unions. The Handout has proven to be a valuable
tool to inform and educate railroad employees, and their spouses, of the
employee’s obligations and rights should they become injured.
John’s railroad experience as a
locomotive engineer and union officer serve him well in assisting the attorneys
and clients in developing their respective cases, from initial interview
through final adjudication. He has
visited and worked in the Railroad Retirement Board Chicago office and
enjoys a good relationship with all the assistants to the Labor Member of
the Board. Clients find this
relationship invaluable.
