Background

James E. Hopkins, Jr. was born in Washington, D.C. on November 26, 1965.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the College of William and Mary in 1987.  While attending St. Louis University School of Law he worked as a judicial clerk for the Assistant Chief Administrative Law Judge at the Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. writing drafts of decisions under the Black Lung Act and Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act.  He received his Juris Doctor degree from St. Louis University in 1992.  He is a partner at the law firm of Bauer & Baebler, P.C.  The firm is nationally designated counsel for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen and the I.B.E.W. and approved by the Brotherhood of Boilermakers and Sheet Metal Workers’ International Association.

Since 1993 Jim has devoted his practice to trial work representing victims of serious personal injury and death.

Jim has handled cases in numerous state and federal courts throughout the Midwest and south, including courts in Missouri, Illinois, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Mississippi.

He has also handled cases in several courts of appeals in state and federal court, including those in Missouri, Illinois and Texas.  Jim and Joseph L. Bauer, Jr. recently were successful in the Missouri Supreme Court in the case of Powel v. Chaminade, in which the Missouri Supreme Court held that repressed memory of past sexual abuse may delay the running of the statute of limitations for bringing a lawsuit.

In addition to his trial and appellate experience Jim has shared his knowledge as a writer in the field of expert testimony as an author of "Admissibility and Submissibility of Expert Testimony and Issues", St. Louis Lawyer, 1995.
